Lakers Make It Unanimous

April 30, 2007

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team became the unanimous No. 1 team in the country, receiving all 10 first-place votes in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Top 10 poll. Following a 12-9 win over then-No. 2 NYIT, the Lakers picked up the only two first-place votes they were not receiving.

Mercyhurst has a perfect 200 total points to hold a solid grip on the top spot. Defending National Champion Le Moyne moved to No. 2 in the country and has 185 points, while NYIT fell one spot to No. 3 with 183 points. C.W. Post climbed a spot to No. 4 and Limestone is up two spots to No. 5.

Bryant dropped two spots to No. 6, while Dowling fell one to No. 7. Molloy remained No. 8 and St. Andrews Presbyterian entered the poll at No. 9. Pace fell one spot to No. 10.

Mercyhurst is 11-1 on the year and has won eight consecutive games since an 8-7 overtime loss to Le Moyne. Since that time, the Lakers have won a pair of No. 1 vs. No. 2 games, defeating then-No. 1 Dowling on April 7 and beating NYIT Saturday at Tullio Field.

Mercyhurst has clinched a share of the East Coast Conference title and will look to win the championship outright Saturday when the Lakers play at Adelphi at 1 p.m. in the final regular season game of the year for Mercyhurst. With a victory, the Lakers could also clinch a home game in the NCAA Division II Final Four.
