Lakers In Third After Day One Of W&J Invitational

Canonsburg, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's golf team shot a 324 opening round score Sunday and sit in third place out of seven teams after day one of the Washington and Jefferson Invitational at Southpointe Golf Club. Mercyhurst used a balanced effort to outshoot four of its opponents on day one as four players shot rounds between 79 and 82. Kyle Waddell shot the second-best score of the tournament on the front nine, posting a 37, and finished with a team-best 79. Craig Bishop bounced back from a front-nine 44 to post a 37 on the back nine for a combined score of 81. Brendan Flood and Tyler Bidwell each shot an 82 and Steven Barr's 90 was dropped from the team score. Washington and Jefferson leads the event with a 310, sparked by individual leader Michael Reddy's 74. Carnegie Mellon is second with a 315, followed by Mercyhurst. Westminster is 10 shots behind the Lakers and Penn State Behrend is one shot back of Westminster. Slippery Rock shot a 347 and La Roche sits in last with a 372.
