Mercyhurst is 6-3-1 all-time against Gannon, including a 35-14 win over the Golden Knights a year ago at Tullio Field. The Lakers are 4-1 all-time in games designated as road games against Gannon, but are 0-1 at Gannon University Field. Mercyhurst won four times in designated road games against the Golden Knights at Erie Veterans Stadium. Under Head Coach Marty Schaetzle, Mercyhurst is 1-2 against Gannon.

Mercyhurst and Gannon compete for the Niagara Cup each year, which began when Gannon joined the GLIAC for the 2004 season. The Lakers currently hold the Niagara Cup for the first time after winning a year ago.
