Lakers Get Weekend Split
Nov. 5, 2007
Erie, Pa - The club hockey team improved to 3-0 in ECHL league play with a 5-2 win over Syracuse University Friday night at the Ice Center. The Lakers played well throughout the game jumping out to an early 1-0 lead off a well placed shot by forward Matt Warren. The club team added 2 more goals before Syracuse mounted a comeback of their own, scoring twice before the end of the second period. Warren scored 2 more times before the end of the game to complete his hat trick putting the Lakers up by a final score of 5-2. Saturday night the Lakers fell to Washington & Jefferson College (the new #18th seed in the nation) by a score of 8-4 in what turned out to be a heated battle and penalty filled affair. 23 minor penalties were handed out during the game, but Mercyhurst was only able to score once in nine power play attempts. The Lakers power play has suffered as of late having scored only twice in their last 14 attempts. "Our special teams need some work" commented Coach McKinnon who will place more emphasis on special team execution in preparation for 2 critical ECHL league games against Niagara University and the University of Buffalo this coming weekend at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. |
