Senior Kenny Waszak scored both game winners

Mercyhurst Sweeps RMC

Jan. 10, 2007

Erie, Pa - The Mercyhurst Club Hockey team finished 2006 with a 7-6-1 record, coming off 2 home victories against the #18th seed from Robert Morris College. Mercyhurst played some of its best hockey against a very skilled Robert Morris team from Illinois.

Game one featured a hard fought battle where both teams traded goals until senior Kenny Waszak netted the eventual game winner at 8:41 of the third period.

Game two was graced with another hard fought see-saw battle in what turned out to be a penalty filled affair. Mercyhurst carried some of its momentum into Saturday afternoon's match, jumping out to an early one goal lead in the first period of play. After going up 3-2, Robert Morris eventually tied the game at 3-3 mid-way through the third to force an overtime period, but RMC goaltender, Aaron Merkle took an untimely delay of game penalty that placed Mercyhurst on the power play in the extra frame. Mercyhurst took immediate advantage of the situation when Kenny Waszak tipped a shot from defenseman Brad Maxa over the left shoulder of Aaron Merkle just 46 seconds into overtime.

Kenny Waszak scored both game winning goals for Mercyhurst and currently leads all players in goals, assists, and points with 11-20-31 respectively.
