Ethan Hulsey Named Assistant Sports Information Director

Mercyhurst Athletics

July 27, 2007

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst athletic department has named Ethan Hulsey the assistant sports information director, effective July 30. He replaces Geoff Goyne, who was named the Sports Information Director at NCAA Division III Wesley College.

Hulsey received his bachelor's degree in communications in 2005 from West Liberty State College in West Liberty, West Va., and then earned his master's degree in organizational development and leadership in 2007 from Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, Pa. Shippensburg competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), a league in which 16 of Mercyhurst's sports will compete beginning in the 2008-09 school year.

"As we move into the PSAC, Ethan's knowledge of the conference will help us make a smooth transition," Sports Information Director Jason Knavel said. "He has experience in public relations through a variety of jobs and internships and understands the demands of a Division II sports information office."

At Shippensburg, Hulsey was the sports information assistant, serving as the media contact for six sports, including men's basketball, baseball, women's volleyball and women's soccer. He was also involved as Shippensburg hosted the NCAA Division II Field Hockey National Championships.

Prior to his time at Shippensburg, Hulsey worked as a media relations intern for the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League. At West Liberty State, he was the sports editor of The Trumpet, the school's weekly newspaper. He was also a radio broadcaster, co-hosting a nightly sports talk show and providing play-by-play and color commentary for West Liberty football and basketball games.

In 2004, Hulsey was a media relations intern for the Ohio Valley Greyhounds of the National Indoor Football League and he served as an assistant varsity and junior varsity basketball coach at River High School in Hannibal, Ohio from 2004-05.
