Junior Barbara Wine became the first Lady Tiger since 1997 to win an event at the conference championships.

Tampa, Fla.-- - University of Memphis junior Barbara Wine (Pampa, Texas/Pampa) became the first Lady Tiger since 1997 to win a conference championship when she won the women's shot put, Saturday.

Wine's best put was a 14.29 meter (46-10.75) effort, which broke a five-year-old school record held by Sherri Stamper. Wine now holds the school record for both the indoor and outdoor shot.

Sophomore Monique Nelson (Freeport, Texas/Brazosport)also scored in the shot, finishing fifth and adding another four points to the team score. Nelson was fifth with a best mark of 13.59-meters.

With the 14 points from the shot competition, Memphis moves from 10th to a tie for eighth in the team standings through 10 events. Memphis and Charlotte each have 25 points with the running events having just begun their finals competitions at 2:00 p.m. (EDT). Marquette leads the women's competition with 56 points. Houston is second with 54 points, while South Florida and Tulane are currently tied with 48 points.
