Memphis, Tenn. - University of Memphis women's tennis coach Charlotte Peterson is about to become only the second women's coach in the history of the school to reach the 300-win plateau. Peterson, who is in her 26th season as the head coach of the Lady Tigers, enters Friday's season opener with Tennessee Tech with 299 career wins.

The only women's coach in any sport to reach to 300-win level is Mary Lou Johns who won 368 games as the women's basketball coach from 1972 to 1991. Johns' career record was 368-215 while Peterson enters this weekend's action with a career mark of 299-374.

The only coach, men or women, with more wins than Johns and Peterson is former baseball coach Bobby Kilpatrick who won more than 600 games in his tenure.

Peterson will have a shot at win number 300 on Friday at 2:30 against Tennessee Tech. The Lady Tigers play McNeese State at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
