Memphis Women's Tennis Falls to Top Seeded Marquette

Tampa, Fla.-- - The University of Memphis women's tennis team (10-10) fell to top seeded Marquette, 5-0, in a match that had been postponed due to rain Friday. Memphis advanced to a 1 p.m. match against Houston with the winner of that match playing the winner of USM/DePaul for fifth place, Sunday at noon. The loser plays for seventh place at 9 a.m., Sunday.

Junior Betsy Card (Terre Haute, Ind.) won her opening set 6-4 at No. 3, but was unable to help Memphis to the upset with 6-1, 6-1 losses in the second and third sets.

Memphis, who finished eighth in last year's championships, plays again at 1 p.m., Saturday, against No. 4 Houston, who was upset by No. 5 seed UAB, 5-3.
