MEMPHIS, Tenn. - In recognition of her success in the classroom, as well as on the softball field, junior pitcher Jenna Kubesch has been voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team, it was announced Thursday by the Academic All-America Committee.

Kubesch, Memphis' No. 1 hurler for much of its inaugural season, recently graduated in just three years with a bachelor's degree in journalism and public relations, carrying an exceptional, 3.94, grade point average.

After transferring to the U of M in the fall of 2005, the Weimar, Texas native has been a member of the Tiger 3.0 Club, Dean's List and Tiger Academic 30 in each her semesters at Memphis.

In the spring of 2006, she was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, while also receiving the Commissioner's Medal of Honor.

On the field, Kubesch sported a 13-12 record in 30 appearances, leading the Lady Tigers with a 1.87 ERA, a .202 opposing batting average, 165.0 innings pitched,158 strikeouts, six shutouts and 25 starts.

Among the Conference USA leaders in ERA and opposing batting average, she was the only pitcher in the league to record two no-hit efforts in 2006, logging a no-hitter against Southern Miss and a perfect-game against Grambling State.

Only a junior in eligibility, Kubesch will remain at the U of M to complete her final softball season, while pursuing a master's degree in sport and leisure commerce.

Following the Academic All-District First Team honor, Kubesch will now be eligible for Academic All-America accolades, which will be voted on later this month.
