The University of Memphis Lady Tiger golf team is opening the spring season at one of the most noted golf courses in America, Pinehurst #8, where the Edwin Watts/Carolinas Classic is being held and it is obvious from first round results that the Lady Tigers are enjoying the old course.
Led by sophomore Jennifer Jaszek, the Lady Tigers are in fourth place after 18-holes. Jaszek turned in an opening round 76 and is tied for 11th. Courtney Pomeranz, of North Carolina-Wilmington, is in first place after carding a one under par score of 71. Tiger junior Marianne Ruud and her teammate Abby More are tied for 23rd with scores of 78 and Meaghan Francella is tied for 29th at 79.
North Carolina-Greensboro leads the team competition with a score of 293. Charleston Southern is second at 301, while North Carolina-Wilmington is third at 302. Memphis, 311, and James Madison, 314, round out the top five.
Second round play is slated for Tuesday.
