CARBONDALE, Ill. - The University of Memphis track and field team opened up competition at the Saluki Booster today. Men's and women's weight throw, pole vault and long jump headlined the day. Five top three places highlight the field for Memphis.
Susan King had a distance of 17.61 meters (57-09.50) in the weight throw to take down second place honors. Sivan Aballi and Angela Wigley also posted distances in the same event with throws of 14.19 meters (46-06.75) and 13.92 meters (45-08.00), respectively. Steffen Nerdal placed third in the men's weight throw with a mark of 18.31 meters (60-01.00) to highlight the men's throws.
Aaron Whetstone brought home second place in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.12 meters (23-04.50), improving his earlier mark of the season by over a foot. Eryka Morris leaped to a mark of 5.48 meters (17-11.75) in the long jump, good enough for fourth place honors. LaShundra Kirk, Charlotte Abrahamsen and Jessica Wright were all .01 meters apart bringing in seventh, eighth and ninth place.
Robbey Rasmussen and Brian Prackett finished back-to-back in the pole vault with leaps of 4.45 meters (14-07.25) and 4.15 meters (13-07.25). Whitney Bolton and Ashton Baldwin tied for second on the ladies side in the same event with a height of 3.50 meters (11-05.75).
Competition will continue tomorrow at 10 a.m., as the Tigers round out the final day of the Saluki Booster.
