MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis men's soccer teammates Andy Metcalf and Jared Britcher were selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Metcalf earns Academic All-America honors for the second time in his career after being named to the third team as a sophomore in 2003. He led the Tigers and Conference USA in goals during his senior campaign in 2005 with 12, points with 29 and shots with 60. The Jackson, Tenn., native scored a goal in each of the first four conference games and led C-USA with seven goals in league play. The senior is third all-time at Memphis in goals with 39 and tied for third all-time in points with 90. Metcalf is second on the C-USA all-time goals list.

Metcalf was also a 2004 First Team NSCAA/Adidas South Region Scholar Athlete and made the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll for 2003-05. He is on the leadership committee for FCA and volunteers for Street Ministries. Metcalf is majoring in international business with a 3.44 GPA.

Britcher was third on the team in goals with seven and tied for fifth in goals in C-USA. The Knoxville, Tenn., native was second on the team and fourth in the conference with 18 points. The sophomore is one of only two Tigers to start all 18 games.

Britcher is a two-time member of the Tiger 3.0 Club, Tiger Academic 30 and Dean's List. He made the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal in 2005. A member of the SAAC Leadership Committee, Britcher is a volunteer soccer coach and has helped out in the Special Olympics the past two years. Britcher is majoring in exercise and sport science with a 3.89 GPA.

The Academic All-America® Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000-member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
