University of Memphis men's soccer team captain Daniel Dobson was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week on Tuesday.
The senior midfielder from Garland, Texas scored the game-winning goal in the final minutes of regulation against No. 23 UAB. The come from behind victory gave the Tigers their first Conference USA Championship in the 10-year history of the conference. The win also assured Memphis only its second NCAA Tournament appearance in the program's history.
Dobson is the second Tiger soccer player to be named to a national team this week. Freshman Marcus McCarty also was named to College Soccer News' Team of the Week for his efforts in the C-USA Tournament. The honor is Dobson's second national recognition this season. He was named to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week on Nov. 1.
Memphis will open the NCAA Tournament on Friday at 6 p.m. (CST) against the No. 30 Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio. If the Tigers win, they will travel to face No. 5 seeded Notre Dame.
