Sophomore Andy Metcalf was named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District IV team. He leads the team with 24 points and 10 goals, while holding a 3.766 GPA in Management.

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-- - For the second consecutive year a University of Memphis men's soccer player was named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District IV University Division Men's Soccer team as forward Andy Metcalf was named to the team as selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) for his high level of performance both on the field and in the classroom. Former Tiger Chris Schmidt earned the honor last year.

The District IV team consists of NCAA Division I universities in Alabama, Kentucky Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. A student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and maintain a 3.2 grade-point average while serving as a significant starter or reserve for his team.

Metcalf has maintained high standards off the field, maintaining a 3.766 grade-point average in Management. On the field the Jackson, Tenn. native has had a breakthrough sophomore campaign with a team-high 24 points, 10 goals and four game-winning scores. He has also assisted on five other Tiger goals. The sophomore has netted multi-goal performances on three occasions this year and earned Conference USA Player of the Week on Oct. 20.

The Verizon Academic All-District Team is in conjunction with the Verizon All-America program. Members of the District IV team will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Memphis will play its final game of the season on Sat., Nov. 8, when they face C-USA foe Charlotte. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the MRSC.
