The University of Memphis Tiger football team will play seven home games in 2006, including a nationally televised contest with Tennessee on September 30 from Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
"This is a tough and competitive schedule," said Clay Helton, assistant head coach. "We are very excited about playing seven home games in front of our Tiger fans this fall.
"The conference schedule is very balanced with Southern Miss, UCF, Tulsa and Houston coming to Memphis," Helton added. "All four played in bowl games last season and return veteran teams. There is a lot of parity in our league from top to bottom and that should make for a very interesting season."
The Tigers will open the 2006 campaign on September 2 in Oxford, with the Ole Miss Rebels, before returning to Memphis for the home opener on September 9 against UT-Chattanooga. The Tigers will face one conference road game, East Carolina, on the 16th before Tennessee comes to town on September 30 for a game slated to be televised on ESPN/ESPN2.
The month of October will open with the Tigers traveling to Birmingham, to take on UAB on the 7th. Arkansas State and Tulsa come to the Liberty Bowl in mid-October with the Indians arriving on October 14 and the Golden Hurricane, last year's AutoZone/Liberty Bowl Champion, slated to play Memphis on the 21st. The U of M will close out October with a road game against Marshall on October 28.
Memphis will return to the friendly confines of the Liberty Bowl on November 4 to take on Southern Miss and will follow-up the Golden Eagle match-up with homes games against UCF on the 11th and Houston on the 18th of November. The regular season will close on November 25th with a road contest against UTEP in El Paso, on the 25th.
