MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Scooter McFadgon scored 16 points to lead five Memphis
players in double figures Thursday night as the Tigers defeated Arkansas State
83-60.
Memphis (3-6), which led 39-26 at the half, ran off a 9-2 start to the
second half and built a 20-point lead at 48-28.
The Indians (4-4) never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.
The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Tigers.
Memphis' Paris London came off the bench and hit 15, Kelly Wise had 13,
while Modibo Diarra and Marcus Moody finished with 12 and 11 respectively.
Nick Rivers led Arkansas State with a game-high 19, including 5-of-9 from
3-point-range, while Kim Adams finished with 11.
Arkansas State never led in the game and the only tie came early at 2-2.
McFadgon scored 11 points in the first half to give Memphis a 13-point lead at
intermission.
After Memphis built its 20-point lead early in the second half, Arkansas
State scored 9 straight points to cut the margin to 48-37 when Rivers connected
on a 3-pointer with 14:02 left in the game.
But about two minutes later, Memphis scored four consecutive baskets,
including two by Shyrone Chatman, to rebuild its lead.
The Tigers eventually would lead by as many as 27 with 3:03 to play, when
London scored on a dunk.
For the game, the Indians shot only 40.4 percent from the field, while
Memphis connected on 50.9 percent, including 57.1 percent in the first half.
