MEMPHIS, TENN. - Junior shooter Beth Tidmore is no doubt ready to make a case for why she is one of the most prolific shooters in the history of the U of M Rifle program. In her third season with the squad, Tidmore has opened up the year with wins at both the Ole Miss Invitational and the Tiger Open hosted by the U of M.

Tidmore posted a 588 score in the air rifle division at Ole Miss to take the individual title and help Memphis to a second place finish (2321). The Tigers placed third in smallbore (2264), and ended the competition ranked third overall (4585) behind Jacksonville State and host Ole Miss.

Tidmore, who shot a 572, finished ninth in smallbore at the Rebels' event, behind Katie Benjamin who placed eighth with a score of 572 and Brian Phillips who was the Tigers' leading smallbore competitor with a sixth place showing and a total of 573. Other smallbore shooters for Memphis, J.B. Vaughan and Krissey Bahnsen placed 24th and 28th, respectively.

Also placing in the top 15 in the air rifle division at Ole Miss was Benjamin who ranked fifth with a 585, and Bahnsen whose 578 was good enough to place her 12th among 41 shooters. Vaughan and Phillips rounded out the Tigers at No. 25 and No. 27.

In the Tiger Open, Tidmore fired a 589 out of a possible 600 in the air rifle division to take her second tournament title of the season. Memphis finished third (2321) in the event behind Jacksonville State (2331) and Murray State (2324).

Benjamin placed sixth in air rifle with a 584 while Bahnsen was 17th with a 577. Phillips and Vaughan ended the event at 28th and 32nd. Newcomer Bobbie Lee Prewit placed 66th after tallying a 545.

"I am very excited about how well we have started this season," said head coach Butch Woolbright. "This is undoubtedly one of the best squads I have ever worked with and I am proud that we are making such a name for ourselves early on. This team works very hard and I look forward to continued success throughout the season."
