LEXINGTON, S.C. - UMES got a 2-4 outing from freshman Jaleesa Lewis but it was not enough as the Lady Hawks fell 4-0 to South Carolina State (SCSU) on the first day of the MEAC Softball Roundup Friday morning at the Pine Grove Sports Complex. Kristen Greenwood (2-11) pitched a good game, giving up just one hit and no runs in the first three innings until the Lady Bulldogs plated a runner in the fourth. SCSU (4-36, 1-8 MEAC) got their bats going in the fifth after Freeman homered to center field to score her and Ross, who reached base after a single down the left field line. The Lady Bulldogs plated its final run of the game in the sixth after capitalizing on a throwing error by the Lady Hawks. UMES (2-20, 0-6 MEAC) outhit South Carolina State but left eight stranded. Lewis' 2-4 outing paced the maroon and gray while Mishayla Truttman, Shakeyah Habib and Tiana Strother each picked up a hit. Brooke Downey added a game high 11 putouts. South Carolina State got a 2-2 outing from Ross while Freeman went 1-2 with one run and one RBI. The Lady Hawks return to MEAC action tomorrow with single games against Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M at 10:00am and 2:00pm, respectively. |
