April 17, 2007 VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Josh Dean (Dagsboro, Del./Indian River, H.S.) earned his second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Rookie of the Week nod the league announced on April 16. Dean batted .450 for the week in five games, including hitting .692 in a three game series against North Carolina A & T State this past weekend. Despite the Hawks dropping all five contests this past week, Dean was on-fire at the plate. Two of the NCAT losses were by one run and the West Virginia series saw a close 8-4 contest in game one. Dean also tallied four runs, nine hits and three RBI in his 20 plate appearances. He walked twice and recorded 13 put outs. He previously earned Rookie of the Week honors on March 26, 2007. Joel Gonzalez was also recognized by the MEAC for his play over four games last week. Gonzalez was listed as a top performer as he batted .416 for the week. The Hawks host Norfolk State today at 3:00 pm in a make-up game from April 8 and travel to play the University of Maryland tomorrow night in College Park, Md. with a 5:00 pm start time. |
