BLACKSBURG, VA. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) track and field team wrapped up the indoor portion of their season on Saturday, March 5, finishing strong at Virginia Tech's Last Chance Invitational.

Senior Chantelle Ringgold was impressive in the 200m, taking fifth in 25.21. Pavla Zavoralova also had a strong outing, finishing the mile run in 5:35.

Sophomore Dwayne Robinson highlighted the performances for the men, taking second in the men's 60m hurdles in 7.92. Robinson, UMES' record holder in the event, ran his best time of the season and eclipsed his own standing in the archives that was previously set on February 21 at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships.

Clayton James ended his indoor season by taking seventh in the 800m, while Gareth Burrowes and Jeffery Meyers finished amongst the leaders in the 400m. Sophomore Kimani Kirton took fourth in the shot put, finishing behind athletes from UNC, NC State and Virginia Tech, while the men's 4x400m relay team wrapped up the impressive outings for the Hawks, taking first in the 3:21.

UMES will send two of their own, sophomores Petagay O'Connor and Eva Slavikova, to NCAA Championships on March 11 and 12. O'Connor, who provisionally qualified for the NCAA's on January 8 at the Coach O Invite, will compete in the triple jump while Slavikova will participate in the 3000m run after provisionally qualifying for the Championships on January 29.

O'Connor, an NCAA provisional qualifier during the outdoor portion of her freshman year, will look to improve on her finish from last year while Slavikova, the reigning MEAC champion in the 3000m, will also look to finish strong among the competition.

The Hawks will begin their outdoor season on March 17, traveling to Charlotte, NC to participate in the 49er Classic.
