LANDOVER, MD - Sophomores Dwayne Robinson and Kimani Kirton had record breaking performances on the last day of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championships, winning individual titles in the men's 60m hurdles and shot put. Robinson, the MEAC champion in the 60m hurdles, took first in 7.93 seconds and broke his own record in the event, while Kirton broke the MEAC men's indoor shot put record with a throw of 17.32m, out-throwing the second place finisher by three meters (nine feet).

Robinson's time set a new school record in the men's 60m hurdles, shattering his own standing in the archives that was previously set on January 16 at the Father Diamond Invite. Kirton's record breaking feat also set a new standard for UMES, as he broke his own standing in the record books to win the MEAC men's shot put title.

In other events, senior Barnabas Togom took home an individual title in the 5000m run. Togom won the event in 15:19, a full 30 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Sophomore Eva Slavikova took home two titles, winning both the women's mile run and the 3000m run, while freshman Pavla Zavoralova finished the mile run in 5:15, good for a 5th place finish. Senior Tiwana Smith rounded out the outstanding performances from UMES, taking 4th in the women's shot put.

As a team the men finished 3rd, just three points behind second place Hampton University. The women took 4th; two points shy of third place finisher Norfolk State.

The teams are off for two weeks, playing in their last indoor meet of the season on March 5 at Virginia Tech's Last Chance meet.
