Jan. 16, 2005 FAIRFAX, VA - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men and women's indoor track team finished strong in their second meet of the year, bringing home an individual title in the women's 1000m run and breaking the school record in the men's 60m hurdles. Sophomore Eva Slavikova took home the title in the women's 1000m run with a time of 2:55.99, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of the second place contender. This is Slavikova's second individual title in as many weeks; she also brought home a first place finish in the 800m run at the Coach O Invitational hosted by UMES on Saturday, January 8. On the men's side, sophomore Dwayne Robinson finished third in the men's 60m hurdles, running the event in 8.02 seconds. Robinson, who first broke UMES' record in the event on January 8 with a time of 8.05 seconds, shattered his own standing in the archives by shaving three seconds off of his record breaking finish from the first week of action this season. Shakira Robinson performed well at the Father Diamond Invite, finishing third in both the women's 60m hurdles and women's 200m dash. UMES had three Hawks finish in the top 15 in the women's 200m, with Robinson leading a 3-7-13 finish in the event. Chantelle Ringgold finished seventh with a time of 26.19, while Nicole McKenzie took 13th in 26.94 seconds. The men were successful in the 800m run, with Clayton James, Christopher Havrilla and Julien Cherrington each finishing at the top of the leader board. James took home runner-up honors, finishing in 1:56.30 while Havrilla garnered an eighth place finish with a time of 1:59.14. Cherrington rounded out the top finishers for UMES in that event, taking 12th in 2:05.60. Havrilla was also part of the 4x400 meter relay team that took third, finishing above national powerhouse University of Texas. The team of Havrilla, Ronnie Beard, Josh Hylton, and Gareth Burrowes ran the event in 3:21.95, finishing just two seconds behind first place winner Norfolk State. The teams are off until Saturday, January 22, next traveling to Tennessee to participate in the E. Tennessee Invitational.
