Box Score

RUSTON-- Liz Morvant's RBI single in the fourth inning here Wednesday night gave McNeese State a 3-2 victory over Louisiana Tech in the second game of a doubleheader. McNeese also won the first game 2-0 behind Jana Jones' three-hit shutout as McNeese State improved to 20-25 overall. The doubleheader victory extends the Cowgirls' winning streak to four games and the Cowgirls have won six of its last seven games.

The Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Rachael Phillips solo home run then added a single run in the third on a Jana Jones fielder's choice RBI that scored Jones' younger sister, Chelsea.

Louisiana Tech tied the game two all in the bottom of the third on a two run home run by Ashley Cameron.

McNeese took the lead when Chelsea Jones scored on Morvant's single in the fourth. Louisiana Tech left the tying run stranded on second in the fifth inning and sixth innings.

In the fifth, Emma Barnes singled after Lyndsey McIlwain popped up to first base for the first out. McNeese pitcher Rachel Hodlik got Amberly Waits to pop up to second base for the second out before Cameron singled, advancing Barnes to second. Hodlik the got Regan Clark to pop out to third base to end the inning.

Louisian Tech threatened again in the sixth when Christine Echols led the inning off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Carly White. Hodlik once again got out of the inning by getting Kylie Bassett and Jessica Kirby to fly out to left.

Hodlik gave up nine hits and struck out two in the complete game victory. She improved to 8-6 on the year.

Jana Jones picked up her first shutout of the season and the Cowgirls' sixth of the year with the 2-0 win in the opener. Jones (7-6) gave up two hits in the third and one in the sixth and struck out two.

McNeese scored both runs in the fourth on a RBI single by designated player Megan Beard that scored Rachael Phillips who reached base on a walk. A single by Rachel King scored Shayla Cormier who reached base on a two base error.

King led the Cowgirls with two of seven hits in the game. McNeese also left nine baserunners on base.
