Cowgirls In Second Place At Centenary Invitational After First Round

Sept. 9, 2006

SHREVEPORT-- McNeese State's women's golf team heads into the final round of the Centenary Invitational in second place today. The final round is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.

The Cowgirls are three shots behind leader Oral Roberts with a 308. Oral Roberts shot a first round 305. Behind the Cowgirls is Lamar with a 317, Nicholls State and Louisiana-Monroe with a 320, Centenary with a 329 and Chicago State with a 395.

Tinna Johannsdottir is the Cowgirls' individual leader in second place with a 73. Hannah Bagwell is in 6th place with a 77, Sarah Ekermann and Lacy McKinley are tied in 10th place with 79's and Maggie Welch is in 14th place with a 80. Trista Touchette, who is playing as an individual is in 8th place after shooting a 78.

"I'm very pleased with Tinna Johannsdittir play. She controlled the ball and had an opportunity to shoot 68 or 68 but she missed a few short putts." "Bagwell had a rough start with a 41 on the front then came back to shoot a 39 on the back. Touchette was steady with a 39 on the front and the back. As a team we were solid for this being our first tournament of the season. To have five individuals break 80 is a good sign of things to come for McNeese."
