Women's Golf Team Places Fifth At SLC Championship

April 11, 2007

HORSESHOE BAY, Texas-- McNeese State's women's golf team finished in fifth place at the Southland Conference Tournament here Wednesday at the Ram Rock Golf Course after shooting a 314 in the final round.

Sam Houston State won the team title by 13 strokes over second place Lamar after posting scores of 308-300-304 in the three-day tournament.

First year members Central Arkansas and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finished third and fourth, respectively. Texas State finished sixth followed by Texas-San Antonio and Nicholls State.

Sam Houston State's Stefanie Page won the individual medalist honors in a sudden-death playoff. A par at hole no. 1 kept the playoff going. Page then birdied the par-4, 350-yard and Nilsson's birdie attempt missed of the right edge.

McNeese's Tinna Johannsdottir finished sixth after posting a 78 on the final day and a tournament total of 229. Other Cowgirl finishers had Lacy McKinley finishing in 14th place with a 237, Jennifer Herrmann finished in 19th place at 242 and Maggie Welch and Sara Ekerman finished 26th and 27th, respecitvely with scores of 245 and 246.
