Women's Golf Places 6th At Lamar Lady Cardinal Invitational

BEAUMONT, Tx.-- The Lamar Lady Cardinal Invitational was called final here Tuesday at the Beaumont Country Club after 36 completed holes. Heavy rains on Monday forced the last nine holes of the second round to be completed Tuesday morning. The rains came back halfway through the third round Tuesday when a band of thunder showers hit the country club. Due to team travel plans, the tournament was called.

McNeese State finished in sixth place in the 10-team field with a 638. After shooting a 322 first round, the Cowgirls came back to shoot a 316 in the second round.

Sara Ekermann was the Cowgirls' top finisher in a tie for 14th place with a 158. Ekermann finished the first round with a 77 before concluding the tournament with a 81 in the second round. Maggie Welch tied for 21st with a 160, Tinna Johannsdottir tied for 25th at 161, Trista Touchette finished in a tie for 29th place at 162 and Hannah Bagwell finished in 35th place with a 164. Individual player scores had Lacy McKinley in a 41st tie with a 167, Jennifer Hermann tied for 48th with a 173, Kate Machado tied for 51 at 177 and Jacy Reynolds finished in 53rd place with a 178.

Lamar's Hilary Ziegler claimed medalist honors and Lamar won the team title. Ziegler shot a 36-hole 150 and defeated Sam Houston State's Stefani Page by one stroke (151). Lamar led the tournament from the opening round on Monday. The Lady Cardinals shot a 302 in the opening round and shot a 312 in the second round for a 614 tournament total, 11 shots better than second place Sam Houston State.

McNeese will take part in the Arkansas-Little Rock/North Texas Tournament next week in their final tournament before the Southland Conference Tournament April 8-11.
