Ekermann Is Top Cowgirl Finisher After Day One
 
 
Cowgirls In Fifth Place Of Lady Cardinal Invitational After First Round

BEAUMONT, Tx.-- McNeese State's women's golf team is in fifth place of the Lamar Lady Cardinal 10-team tournament heading into Tuesday's action at the Beaumont Country Club. The Cowgirls shot a 322 on Monday and are 20 shots behind leader Lamar who shot a 302.

Due to heavy rain, the tournament got a late start and only 27 holes were played on Monday. Tuesday's play will begin at 8 a.m. with the tournament field completing the final nine holes of the second round and then closing out the day with round three.

Oklahoma City University is in second place with a 314 followed by Sam Houston State (317) and Central Arkansas (320).

Lamar has three of the top five finishers on the day with Hiliary Ziegler heading into the final round as the individual leader after shooting a one-over par 72. Teammates Bonnie Howard and Therese Nilsson are right behind with a 74 and 76, respectively.

Sara Ekermann is McNeese's top finisher who enters the final day in fifth place with a 77 in the opening round. Other Cowgirl scores have Tinna Johannsdottir tied for 13th with a 79, Maggie Welch is tied for 24th with a 81, Trista Touchette and Hannah Bagwell are tied for 39th place with a 85.

Lacy McKinley, Jacey Reynolds and Jennifer Herrmann are participating as individuals. McKinley shot an 83, Reynolds a 85 and Herrmann a 88 in the opening round.
