McNeese begins drive for funds to build new athletic fieldhouse

May 3, 2006

A fund raising project for a new athletic fieldhouse at McNeese State was recently announced by Dr. David Buttross III, committee chairman.

The project - dubbed building a power house - seeks to raise 6.5 million dollars for the construction.

Buttross said that the project will be undertaken in stages, with the first stage involving the addition of 15,270 square feet onto the existing facility for a new weight room and locker room.

Phase two will be the remodeling of the existing 17,790 square feet of the building, this to include new coach's offices, teaching areas and audio/visual rooms.

Phase three will focus on private club seating for home football games.

Buttross also announced donations of $100,000 each from the McNeese Cowboy Club, the Petrochem Athletic Association and from Judge Rick Bryant.

The fieldhouse, which is a major part of the Jack V. Doland athletic complex, was first constructed in 1965 and expanded in the 1970s.

More information on the project can be obtained from Pam McGough at (337) 562-4141.
