Marshall Volleyball Hires Graduate Assistant

6/5/2001

Huntington, W.Va. -- Marshall University head volleyball coach Steffi Legall filled the vacant graduate assistant position, Friday, with the hire of Lisa Holley.

"We are really pleased to have someone like Lisa join our program," said head coach Steffi Legall. "She was a tremendously versatile player in college. She will instill all that quality experience with our young players."

Holley, 25, was a four-year starter for Weber State at the outside attacker position. The former Wildcat co-captain was named All- Big Sky Academic Team her final two seasons. Holley still holds the school record for kills in a match (38) versus Boise State. That mark was also the conference single-season high. Holley also ranked in the top two in both, kills and digs.

"I am really excited to be here," said Holley. "I wanted to get into coaching ever since I finished my playing career at Weber State and this seemed the best way to reach that goal."

Holly, a native of Portland, Oregon, earned her Lifestyle Management degree from Weber State in 1998. Holly served as a student assistant coach with the Wildcats for the 1997-98 season. After graduation, Holley worked at Bally Total Fitness and Gold's Gym for the past three years.

"I feel I know a lot about the game defensively," said Holley. "I hope to bring solid communication skills. I look forward to get to know the girls and hope we can work well together."

The Thundering Herd will open the 2001 schedule on Friday, August 31 versus South Florida at the Florida Invitational in Gainesville, Florida. Marshall will face the host Gators and Arizona the following day.
