Marshall Diving Coach Clifton Waterbury Inks Top High School Recruit

11/18/2002

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. -- Marshall University Diving Coach Clifton Waterbury has signed Bethany Jensen of Greentown, Ind., one of the nation's top diving recruits, for the 2003-2004 swimming and diving season.

Jensen, a senior at Eastern High School, is a two-time Indiana state finalist and a Junior Olympic Winter National Qualifier and Junior Olympic Summer National Qualifier. She is also a regional champion and two-time sectional champion, along with being Eastern's record holder in the six and eleven dive competition.

Jensen was a highly recruited diver as evident by the caliber of schools that were interested in her. She chose Marshall over top programs such as Kansas, Texas, Minnesota, Nebraska, UCLA, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

"I felt that Marshall was the right choice for me because of the high standard of academics and the quality of coaching that would help me reach my full potential as a diver," said Jensen.

Jensen, who was coached by her father, Jerry Jensen, also excelled in cross country at Eastern and was named the county's most valuable athlete in 2002.

"I'm extremely excited to be able to bring in an athlete that is eager to excel on the boards as well as in the classroom," said Waterbury. "Bethany has an excellent personality and comes from a great family, both of which will contribute to her success here at Marshall."

Jensen plans to arrive in Huntington in August of 2003.
