HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women’s golf team shot its highest score of the tournament with Sunday’s final round 331 to finish in 14th place at the 25th Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational at the Ohio State Scarlet Course.
The Herd followed up its low-round 318 in the second round on Saturday with a 331 on Sunday, dropping Marshall to 14th place in the 15-team field with a final tally of 978. Michigan State won the event with a 22-over-par 886, nine strokes ahead of second place Ohio State (895).
Amber Churchill (Dublin, Ohio) was Marshall’s top finisher in a tie for 62nd (246). Only Churchill’s second round 2-over 74 on Saturday was the Herd’s lone round in the 70s. However, the Herd sophomore concluded play with a season-worst 91 in the third round on Sunday.
Allyson Hatcher (Wheeling, W.Va.) and Tammy Mahar (Ashland, Ky.) finished just behind Churchill with scores of 247 and 248, respectively. Sheena Caron (Bolt, W.Va.) fired Marshall’s low-round on Sunday with an 8-over 80, one shot better than her 81 in the second round.
Lindsay Knowlton of Ohio State received medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 214, which included a 4-under 68 on Sunday.
The OSU Scarlet Course is a par-72, 6,201-yard golf course.
