Women's Basketball Award Winners Announced at Friday's Banquet

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University women’s basketball team handed out its 2003-04 season awards when it hosted its second annual end-of-year banquet on Friday, April 16, at the Radisson Hotel’s Patio Room.

Head coach Royce Chadwick delivered the awards to his athletes, none bigger than the Donna Lawson Most Valuable Player Award which went to senior Catie Knable (Floyd Knobs, Ind.). The forward ended her career with several personal single-season bests and stands in second place on the all-time rebound chart at Marshall and in 15th place in the Mid-American Conference.

Sophomore Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) picked up Offensive Player of the Year honors while freshman Teyonka Hodge (Washington, D.C.) was named Defensive Player of the Year.

Chadwick and his staff honored their three seniors, Knable, Amy Smith (Ramstein, Germany) and Nadia Swanigan (Sylacauga, Ala.), with the Captain Award.

Other award winners were:

Sixth Man Award – Mary Pat Statler

Most Versatile Award – Kim Griffin

Most Improved Award – Modupe Ishola and KaShawna Curry

Comeback Award – Crystal Champion

Adversity Award – Jameka White

Perseverance Award – L’erin Scott

Academic Award – Jamie Kellerman

Student-Assistant Award – Rebekah Newell and Ko Hayashi
