HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women’s basketball has added another player to its spring recruiting class as guard Bridget Chacon has signed to suit up for the Thundering Herd in 2005-06 after transferring from Cochise (Ariz.) College.
Chacon was the Apaches’ team MVP both of her seasons at Cochise College and garnered First Team All-Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and First Team All-Region I Division I honors in 2004-05. She led the entire National Junior College Athletic Association in steals per game in both her seasons at C.C., and set a junior college record with 16 steals in one game in her sophomore campaign.
“Bridget is a seasoned guard who led the nation in steals for two seasons,” Marshall head coach Royce Chadwick said. “She brings dimensions of leadership and tenacity and has a tremendous work ethic.
“I’m very excited to have someone with her experience step into our program and add some things that we did not have last year.”
Last season, she averaged 14.8 points, 6.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game to go along with her national-best steals per game average of 6.3. Cochise College, located in Douglas, Ariz., went 19-10 and lost in the Region I finals.
The 5-foot-7, Las Cruces, N.M., native was twice named to the all-tournament team at the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbird Classic and was selected to Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges.
Chacon will be eligible to play for the Thundering Herd as a junior next season.
