HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Sikeetha Shepard-Hall tied a career-high with 30 points to lead Marshall to an 82-78 win over visiting UAB in Conference USA women's basketball action at the Cam Henderson Center on Friday.

Shepard-Hall also grabbed eight rebounds with four assists and sank 15-of-16 free throws to tie for the second most free throws in a game in Marshall history. Center Modupe Ishola tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds - along with three blocks - to guide the Herd to its first ever C-USA sweep by going 2-0 in the regular season against the Blazers.

The Thundering Herd (12-10, 7-4 C-USA) trailed at halftime by two points, 30-28, but scored 54-second half points to reach 82 for the game - the most points scored in a game all season. Ishola, Shepard-Hall and guard Reshundra Smiley combined for 46 points in the second half, going 13-of-22 from the floor.

Smiley recorded 18 points, her highest point output since scoring a career-high 23 points on Jan. 6 at Memphis.

The game featured nine ties and four lead changes. UAB (12-10, 5-6 C-USA) lost its halftime lead shortly after the break and trailed until the 8:49 mark. The Blazers grabbed their biggest lead, four points, at 7:16 when freshman forward Brianna Berry converted a three-point play after getting fouled on a jumper in the paint. The lead would be short-lived when Shepard-Hall scored a layup with 4:29 left to five MU a lead it would not relinquish.

UAB freshman guard Carmen Guzman scored a team-high 21 points on 7-of-20 shooting. Fellow freshman Britney Jones netted 20 points with five rebounds and three assists.

Marshall shot at a 42.6 percent clip in the game to UAB's 41.5 percent.

Offensive rebounds by the Herd - 21 for the game and 12 in the second half - resulted in 20 second chance points. Marshall out-rebounded UAB 47-35.

Marshall never trailed in the first half until Guzman sank a 3-pointer with 2:17 left. Junior forward Shimena Moore stole a Bridget Chacon pass at half court with 10 seconds left for an easy lay in to send the Blazers into the break up two points.

The Marshall win, combined with a 76-57 Southern Miss loss to Tulsa, moved the Herd into third place in the C-USA standings. Marshall has won 12 of its last 15 home games and will play host to Memphis on Sunday in a nationally-televised game on CSTV. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
