Men's Soccer Has Four on Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND - The Mid-American Conference announced its 2004 Men's Soccer All-MAC Team, which features four players from the Marshall University men's soccer team.

Senior Joe Nebel (Brentwood, TN), juniors Jeremy Ashe (Cinnaminson, NJ) and Kirk Gibson (Allen, TX) and sophomore Karim Boukhemis (Huntington, WV) were each named to the team.

Nebel, finishing his second year in goal for the Thundering Herd, made the team with a 3.80 GPA in Sports Management and Marketing. He started 14 of 20 games in goal this season. Nebel recorded two shutouts in 2004, one in the double overtime tie at Akron and the other in the win over Alabama A&M.

Jeremy Ashe, a junior, made the All-MAC team with the highest grade point average on Marshall's team. He currently holds a 3.81 average as a Management major. Ashe is coming off of his best season for the Herd. He scored four goals and two assists, including the game winning goals against Northern Illinois and Radford.

Another junior, Kirk Gibson, was named to the team with a 3.57 average as a Pre-Business major. He also had a career year, registering four goals and four assists for 12 points. His goal with less than a minute left gave MU a come from behind win at Wright State.

Karim Boukhemis was one of only three sophomores in the conference to make the team. He currently has a 3.68 GPA and is majoring in Biology. He is the only one to make the team as a science major. Boukhemis led Marshall with seven goals and 16 points in 2004. He had three game winning goals, including two in one weekend to give the Herd a win in the University of Central Florida Tournament.

This was the first appearance on the team for all four players.

In order to make the team, students must have a 3.20 GPA and must play in at least half of their teams games.
