Marshall Men's Soccer Sign A Pair
6/5/2001
Huntington, W.Va. -- Marshall University head men's soccer coach Bob Gray announced Tuesday that Jared Dombrowski of Pickerington, Ohio, and Robert Ngumire of Kampala, Uganda, have each signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer for Marshall University this fall.
"We are extremely excited to get three players of this caliber at this point of the recruiting season," said head coach Bob Gray. They all work hard, play with passion and will fit right into our system."
Dombrowski joins the Thundering Herd program following an outstanding scholastic career at Pickerington High School. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound forward/midfielder led the Tigers with 16 goals and 10 assists last season. For his efforts, Dombrowski was named first team all-conference, all-district and second team all-state. The four-year letterwinner also played club soccer with Premier Adidas Soccer in Westerville, Ohio, and was a four-year member of the Ohio Olympic Development State squad.
"Marshall just seemed to be the right fit," said Dombrowski, who chose the Herd over Kentucky and Bowling Green. "It has an outstanding athletic and academic program."
Ngmuire joins the Marshall program after two seasons at Tiffin University, a nationally prominent NAIA program in Ohio. The attacking player scored 25 goals and added 11 assists in the two-year stint. In fact, Ngumire tallied 17 goals, seven assists and was named All-American Mideast Conference in 1999. Ngumire helped the Dragons to a 32-7-4 record, including the 1999 AMC Championship.
"The main attraction of Marshall was the opportunity to play with Dennis," said Ngmuire. "We are very close. We had been together our whole childhood until we decided to come over to the United States to study. It was tough being apart."
Marshall opens the 2001 season on September 5 at Sam Hood Field versus Cleveland State. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
