COLUMBUS - Greg Terhune, a Marshall University men's soccer product, has signed a temporary contract with the Columbus Crew of the MLS and will join the team this weekend in New York.

"I'm real happy for Greg. For him to bounce back from a broken arm last season and everything he went through this is an opportunity," Marshall head coach Bob Gray said. "It is a small step, but hopefully it can lead to a pro career."

Terhune, a native of Indianapolis, saw action in seven games due to injury last season and posted two shutouts.

In his junior season of 2005, he started all 19 matches for Marshall and posted shutouts in four of the last seven matches, blanking South Carolina, Memphis, Kentucky and FIU. He recorded a career-best eight saves in a shutout of South Carolina and was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week Oct. 17 following that performance. He was in goal for all but 43:45 of Herd's streak of 479:17 without allowing a goal that season and allowed just one goal in six-game stretch from Oct. 16-Nov. 9, 2005.
