Men's Golf Prepares for MAC Championships

4/30/2003

Marshall University's men's golf team will take part in the Mid-American Conference Championships Thursday through Saturday at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugargrove, Ill.

Northern Illinois is hosting the ten-team, 72-hole event that will be played on the 7,012-yard, par-72 course at Rich Harvest Farms.

Marshall's travel squad consists of juniors Ben Minyard and Ryan Stewart, Sophomores Drew Whitten and Brad Tweel, and freshman Jeremy Graham.

Toledo won last year's MAC Championship, bettering Ohio by 28 strokes at the Medallion Club in Westerville, Ohio.

Ohio owns the record for most titles won with 18, while Miami holds down the record for most consecutive wins with six straight championships from 1987 to 1992. Toledo's win last year snapped Kent State's consecutive championships won streak at five and marked the first time in 16 years that the title did not go to Kent State or Miami.

Marshall won MAC Championships in 1962 and 1966 and has produced seven MAC Individual Champions.
