Cross Country Runs for Regional Title
Nov. 10, 2006 HUNTINGTON- On Saturday, Nov. 11 the men's and women's Marshall cross country squads will compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional meet on the campus of Lock Haven University. The women will start the day at 11 a.m. in a 6k race and the men will follow at 12:15 in their 10k event. Marian Brooks has led the women's team in each meet this year and nothing should change in this meet. Following the C-USA Championship event, where she placed 13th, Brooks was named third team all-conference. In last season's regional meet Brooks finished 69th with a time of 22:26.7. Travis Epling and Jon Nelson have been battling out for the lead position on the men's side all season. Epling finished one spot ahead of Nelson in the past two meets. Last season the men were Marshall's top finishers when Nelson placed 103rd with a time of 32:48.4 and Epling ran for 111th place with his time of 33:02.3. Seven competitors from each school will be entered in the men's and women's races. Last season the women finished 23rd out of 25 teams and the men finished 25th out of 28 teams. The top three teams and first five individuals of each race will advance to the NCAA Championship on Nov. 20 at Terra Haute. Ind.
