Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Place 13th and Third, Respectively, at the 2001 Lakefront Invitational

CHICAGO - The Marshall University women’s cross country team placed third, out of 41, as the men placed 13th, out of 38, in the 2001 Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola University. The women were paced by Jennifer Merschoff (Ronokonoma, NY) who finished ninth overall. Casey Batey (Milton, WV) led the men with a 9th place finish overall.

Merschoff paced the Herd with a time of 18:21. She was followed by teammates Shelby Pride (18:43, 17th), Sarah Corely (18:57, 26th), Jessica Taylor (19:10, 32nd) and Stephanie Eastman (19:32, 58th).

For the men, Batey finished with a time of 25:15. Following Batey for Marshall were Craig Swisher (25:45, 23rd), Jason Pyles (26:56, 85th), Rob Smith (26:56, 86th) and Jacob Porter (27:08, 102nd).

Grand Valley State took first overall for the women with 79 points overall. The University of Kentucky won the men’s title with 88 points. Individual winners were Jenn Feenstra, Georgia State University (16:59), and Ryan McKenzie, Windsor University (24:38).

Of the Division I teams who competed in the meet, the Marshall women placed third and the men finished ninth.

Marshall runs again Oct. 13 in the Pre-NCAA meet in Greenville, SC.
