Cross Country Readies For 2003 Season

Huntington W.Va-- The Marshall University Cross Country team will begin its 2003 season Friday, August 29, at the University of Kentucky- Eastern Kentucky University Double Dual meet in Lexington, Ky.

Other highlights of the schedule include a meet with rival Ohio University on September 6th in Athens.

Marshall will then travel to Blacksburg, Va. on September 20th for the Virginia Tech Invitational. This meet will be followed by the Richmond Invitational in Richmond, Va. on September 26th and the Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Illinois, on October 4. Finishing up the season will be the Eastern Kentucky Invitational at Richmond, Ky.

Marshall will then compete in the MAC Championships for cross country, which kick off on November 1 in Akron, Ohio.

The NCAA Mid- Atlantic Regional meet will take place on November 15th in Lockhaven, Pa. The cross country season will then conclude on November 24 when the NCAA Championships take place in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The Herd’s women’s team is returning ten letter winners from last season’s squad. Key returning letter winners include junior Stephanie Eastman, senior Shelby Pride, and senior Sarah Corley. On the flip side, the Herd’s men’s squad is returning four letter winners. Top performers looking to provide leadership to this season’s squad include junior Craig Swisher, junior Mike Jones, and sophomore Brad Kohler.

Last season, the Thundering Herd women finished 23rd and men 21st in the NCAA Regional.
