Oct. 20, 2007
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Marquette women's tennis team saw all three of its singles representatives struggle and lose Saturday at the Wilson/ITA Regionals hosted by the University of Michigan. One Marquette doubles pair faired better and picked up a win, before losing its second match as the Golden Eagles conclude the fall portion of their schedule. In doubles play, the dynamic freshmen pair of Rachael Hush and Christina Ruiz won their first match of the day over Indiana State's Fadzal Masiyazi and Sarah Meghoufel, 8-5. However, the pair couldn't hold on in the round of 32 and lost a heartbreaker in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (3), to Iowa's Alexis Dorr and Jacqueline Lee. Marquette's other duo of senior Erin Watkins and sophomore Kylie Moore dropped their opening match to Joanna Craven and Stephanie Wooten of Purdue, 8-4, and were eliminated from competition. Hush won a three-set thriller on Friday to earn a spot in the main draw, defeating Lindsey Lonergan of Michigan State, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-4. In the main draw, Hush saw her run come to an end as she came up short against Illinois Marisa Lambropoulos, 6-2, 6-3. Watkins also fell in the first round of play losing to Ohio State's Angela DiPastina, 6-0, 6-1, while Vanessa Frankowski of Eastern Michigan won by retirement over Kylie Moore. Marquette will begin its spring season at Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 19.
