Marquette Wraps Up Play At Ball State Fall Invitational

Feb. 11, 2007

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Marquette men's tennis team had a convincing win over Chicago State, 7-0, today at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. With the win their record improves to 3-3.

The Golden Eagles were able to get off the court quickly at one and three doubles as Brett Binkley and Mark Rutherford took down Cameron Shankin and Prabown Imanuel, 8-2 and Stephen Shao and Niko Boulieris defeated Jonathan Sutjiadi and Nicolas Ortega, 8-0.

In singles play, Rutherford was the only Marquette player unable to win in the first set but was able to come back in the second to force a tiebreaker where he took down Sutjiadi, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.

"It was good to be back out here again today," head coach Steve Rodecap said. "Yesterday's loss to DePaul was both mentally and physically tough, so to be back on the court right away and get a win was important."

"I still think we are still playing slightly tentative in doubles but today's singles were pretty clean all the way around," said Rodecap.

Marquette will play at Purdue on Saturday, February 17 at 11 a.m.
