James, McNeal Earn Postseason Honors
March 26, 2007 MILWAUKEE - Sophomore guards Dominic James and Jerel McNeal were recognized on Monday for their achievements on the court this season. James was named an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American while McNeal garnered Rivals.com 2006-07 All-Defensive First Team honors. A member of the BIG EAST All-Conference First Team, James led the Golden Eagles this season, averaging 14.9 points per game. He also led the team and ranked fourth in the conference with 167 assists and was second on the MU squad and fourth in the conference with 64 steals. James scored 20-plus points in seven games this season and recorded seven or more assists in a game six times. Against Pittsburgh, March 3, he recorded a career-high 10. James becomes the first to receive All-American status from the AP since Travis Diener was named to the honorable mention list following the 2004-05 season. He is the 11th student-athlete all time for Marquette to be recognized as an AP All-American. McNeal, named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and BIG EAST All-Conference Second Team member, led the Golden Eagles and ranked second in the conference with 76 steals this season, the fifth best single-season total in school history. He ranked 10th in the nation, averaging 2.6 steals per game, and was one of only four players in NCAA Division I to average at least 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
