Marquette Moves Up To No. 23 on National Poll
The Marquette women's cross country team moved up six spots on this week's FinishLynx/NCAA Division I national poll, now sitting at No. 23.
On Oct. 28, the Golden Eagles finished third overall at the BIG EAST Championship, held at historic Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. Leading the way for MU was Cassie Peller, who finished 14th overall in a time of 21:49 for the six-kilometer course. By virtue of her top 15 finish, Peller was named to the all-conference team. Marquette's strength came in their pack, as the 1-6 finishers for the Blue & Gold were all within 30 seconds of each other. Next up for Marquette is the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship, held on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the IU Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind. MU's ticket to the NCAA Championship is closely tied to this race. The top two teams in each of nine regions around the country - plus 13 teams chosen at-large - comprise the 31-team field for the race, held on Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind.
"We are always happy to be in the national rankings and it was nice to be rewarded with a higher ranking for our third place finish at the BIG EAST Championship." said head coach Dave Uhrich. "This gives us added confidence as we head to the Great Lakes regional meet next weekend at Indiana. We know it is going to be a tough battle between the six nationally ranked schools in our region and we feel like we are ready for the challenge."
