Golden Eagles Prepare for BIG EAST Championships
May 5, 2006 Marquette's men's and women's track & field team will be competing this weekend at the 2006 BIG EAST Championships, held at the Sherman Family Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Connecticut. After several outstanding performances during the outdoor season leading up to this weekend, 40 members of the MU team will compete at the conference championship. Three Golden Eagles have already qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, held on May 27-28 in Knoxville, Tenn. Michaela Courtney has acheived qualifying marks in both the 1,500m (4:25.55) and 5,000m (16:47.66) runs, while Cassie Peller has earned a spot in the 1,500m (4:27.46). For the men, Brent Des Roches will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase at regionals (9:04.65). Several other Golden Eagles will be aiming to qualify for regionals in several different events this weekend in Storrs. The two-day event will begin today - Friday, May 5 - with events slated to continue through Sunday, May 7.
