MILWUAKEE - The Marquette outdoor track team is competing in California this weekend at three different meets.

On Thursday, several Golden Eagles competed at the 48th Annual Mt. SAC Relays at Mt. San Antonio College, in Walnut, Calif. Highlighting the days results for MU was Cassie Peller's fourth place finish in the Olympic Development 1,500m run. Peller crossed the finish line in a time of 4:27.46.

"Cassie had a great run against a competitive field." said head coach Dave Uhrich. "She was able to get an NCAA regional qualifier, so we're very happy about that."

Susie Emond was seventh in the University/Open 5,000m run, clocking 17:47.48. In the 3,000m steeplechase, Terri Emond was 10th in section two - and 16th overall - while Tara Hinke finished 12th in the second section - 19th overall - in 11:24.41. Both performances were good for qualifying for the BIG EAST Championship from May 5-7. Kristina Malin was third in her section of the 800m - and 21st overall - with a time of 2:14.02. In the field, Jessica Ehlen was 10th in the discus throw, with a toss of 141'01" (43.01m), while Audra Ketelsen placed 22nd (115'00"/35.05m).

For the men, Jed Burey won his section in the University/Open 800m run. Burey clocked 1:53.34. Jon Shaffer, returning from injury, posted a time of 1:54.35 in his section. Brent Des Roches was second in the University/Open 5,000m, in a time of 14:44.97.

"Both Jed and Brent ran well, but were in slower sections - Kristina Malin had the same issue." Uhrich said. "Sometimes that happens in bigger meets, but those three can definately run faster times in faster heats. Jon Shaffer had a good run and felt no effects of his injury."

Kyle Saginus also had a solid run in the University/Open 10,000m run, finishing in a time of 30:59.41. Jeremy Williams (9:33.20) and David Henderson (9:44.62) finished 13th and 15th, respectively, in the University/Open 3,000m steeplechase.

At the Azuza Pacific Invitational in Azusa, Calif., Matt Piekarski finished fourth overall in the decathlon, compiling 6,756 points.

Marquette track action continues today, at the Springco-Long Beach Invitational, held at Long Beach State, while Michaela Courtney will race in the invitational University/Open section of the 1,500m run tonight at the Mt. SAC Relays. Raymond Brachett will compete in the high jump at Mt. SAC on Saturday.
