Maine Women's Cross Country competes at New Englands

BOSTON, Mass.-- The University of Maine men's cross country team finished third out of 48 teams at the 2004 New England Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. on Friday, October 8. The women's team finished 23rd out of 45 teams with 631 points.

Providence College won the men's race with 25 points followed by Boston College with 159 points and Maine with 181. Michael Lansing (Lovell, Maine) was the top Maine finisher for the men as he completed the 4.95 mile course in 25:00 to place 10th. Jeffery Caron (Auburn, Maine) finished 27th in 25:26, followed by teammate Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) who was 28th in 25:29. Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) placed 38th with a time of 25:44, while Joshua Trevino (Rochester, N.H.) rounded out the scoring for the Black Bears when he placed 78th in a time of 26:18.

The women's squad was led by Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) who ran the 5K race in 19:08, good enough for a 56th place finish. She was followed by Kristen Vidlak (Thunder Bay, Ontario) who was 127th in 19:52. Shelby Howe (Colombia, Maine) was 130th in 19:54, followed by teammate Miranda Szwec (Bangor, Maine) who placed 138th in 19:59. Brie Jellison (Ellsworth, Maine) rounded out the scoring for Maine as she placed 181st in 20:40.

The Black Bears return to action on October 30 when they travel to Durham, N.H. for the America East Championship.
