Volleyball Falls to 1-12 on the Season

Sept. 15, 2007

Box Score

KINGSTON, Rhode Island - The University of Maine volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (22-30, 24-30, 28-30) decision to Texas State on Saturday afternoon in Kingston. Maine fell to 1-12 on the season while Texas State improved to 6-5.

Maine was led in kills by juniors Lindsay Allman, Jessica Wolfenden, and sophomore Jennifer Domer each with 9. Allman also led the Black Bears with a match high 12 digs. Wolfenden recorded a team-high 13 assists followed up by freshman Paige Tortorello with 12. Juniors Brittany Kiehl and Amy Lawson led Maine with 2 blocks each.

Texas State was led in kills by Amy Weigle, who posted a match-high of 11. Lawrencia Brown added 10 kills of her own in the match. The Bobcats were led in digs by Casey Wimpy with 10 and Shelbi Irvin totaled a match-high 18 assists.

The Black Bears were held in check by the Bobcats in the first two games with scores of 22-30 and 24-30. But the third game Maine came alive and led a lot of the way. Maine had 19 kills in the third game compared to Texas State's 15. But the blocks by the Bobcats seemed too much for the Black Bears and Texas State took a close third game 30-28 to claim the match.

The Black Bears' next match will be at home for an exhibition match against the University of New Brunswick on September 22 at the Memorial Gym. After that, Maine will start its conference schedule with a match away against UMBC on September 28.
